Dr. Cuddy is the Dean of Medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, where the show takes place. She is often at the behest of Dr. House's outlandish requests, and often must deal with his sometimes erratic behavior, and must force him to complete his required weekly duty at the out-patient clinic.

She is also involved in a degree of sexual tension with Dr. House. She often wears revealing outfits, which are a source of semi-lewd comments from House. While it may be inferred that the two have had sexual relationships, nothing has been confirmed, and viewers are left to make their own interpretation.

Little is known about Dr. Cuddy's personal history. She is presumably Jewish, as Dr. House once asked her if her J-Date didn't work out (J-Date is an online Jewish dating service). she treated House when he suffered the infarction in his leg. It is also known that she is currently single and attended the University of Michigan around the same time as Dr. House. She was anundergraduate and he already "had a reputation". While all doctors have a medical specialty, Dr. Cuddy's has never been alluded to. At one point, however, Dr. House asserts that she is not a neurologist.
